Religious Education

At Coupe Green Primary School we follow the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus programme of study set by the Lancashire SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education). Our aim is to provide all children with a broad understanding of the different religions, cultures and beliefs around us today. The curriculum is designed to ensure that children fully develop their critical thinking skills alongside their knowledge and understanding of world religions.

Following the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus for R.E. each class studies a key focus question for the entire year. For example, ‘What do people say about God?’ of ‘Is life like a Journey?’ These questions then help shape children’s understanding through the different religions studied.

At Coupe Green, R.E. is taught each week from EYFS through to year 6 and covers the six main world religions (Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism) with the majority of teaching time (50%) being devoted to the study of Christianity.

We always aim to enrich our curriculum through the celebration of religious festivals, inviting visitors into school and taking part is visits to local places of worship.
