Welcome to Maple Class
We have 26 happy, eager Year 4 and 5 children who have a love for learning! Our teacher is called Miss Littlefair and she is a caring, enthusiastic, fun teacher who plans lots of fun and exciting lessons and activities.
In Maple Class, we are very lucky to have an amazing teaching assistant called Mrs Smith, who is always there to give a helping hand when you need her!
We love to learn in enjoyable and exciting ways. We are a hardworking, enthusiastic class who take pride in our work. Come and join us to see the wonderful things we do!
Our themes this year are: Robots, The Great Plague, The Art of Food, Passport for Europe, Water, and The Amazon
What have we been up to? Our current topic is ‘Robots’. Sparks are flying, as we discover all the amazing facts about electricity! We have been exploring different inventions that famous inventors have created such as Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, and Alexander Graham Bell. We are very excited to invent and create our own class robot powered by electricity!
In English, we have been working super hard to gather research about a famous inventor of our choice. We have been using our research to produce biographies about our chosen inventors’ life and their achievements. The children have been learning which different features to apply to their biographies such as time connectives, subheadings, and using third-person pronouns. Additionally, in our grammar lessons, we have been learning how to apply expanded noun phrases to sentences to add detail to our description. We have been looking at how to use adjectives, verbs, and adverbs in our descriptive writing to make it more exciting for the reader.
In Maths, we have been looking at place value of numbers to at least 4 digits and decimal numbers, partitioning, rounding, and ordering numbers in different ways. The children are working super hard on developing their confidence in their times tables and are enjoying taking part in various multiplication games! We will also be learning about written and mental methods for addition and subtraction and applying them to worded problems. Every morning, we are enjoying taking part in the ‘fast 5’, developing our arithmetic skills which helps us share our calculations and misconceptions with the rest of the class.
In Maple Class, we are following our updated ‘Pick and Mix’ homework scheme, where we are given homework options for the half term and we complete at least two activities. Our homework is due in on the last Wednesday of half term.
We are also asked to complete weekly activities – reading, times tables, and spellings. Reading – at least twice a week for 10 minutes on Bug Club. Times tables – at least 5 minutes on Times Tables Rockstar’s.
We are also given weekly spellings homework on a Friday, which is a combination of spelling investigation followed by spelling words to learn.
